Firwin Corp Announces Major Expansion of Production Facilities. Print E-mail
Firwin, a Toronto-based manufacturer of removable insulation blankets, reached a major milestone recently with a major expansion of its office and production facilities. The expansion doubles the company's production and warehousing space, allowing Firwin to increase production to meet the growing demand for its insulation products. "We've known for a while that we were reaching the limits in our current facility," said Paul Herman, Firwin's president. "Not only was our production area becoming cramped, but we were reaching the limits in our office space as well. During lunch time in the canteen, it was often standing room only!" As anyone who has been involved in moving a manufacturing operation can attest, it can be quite an undertaking. Fortunately for Firwin, the tenant in the facility next door moved out and the space became available. "The timing and location could not have been better," added Paul. "Unlike our last expansion in 2000, where we had to move our entire plant to a new facility, this expansion allowed us to fix up the place next door, knock down some walls, and literally move our new production across the floor." Thus far the expansion has been smooth, with little downtime to production. "Taking on such a major expansion is never a simple decision," noted Paul. "But we have always tried to view ourselves as partners in our customers' businesses; so as they continue to grow, we felt we had to grow with them." The company hopes that the expanded facilities will allow it to streamline production, enabling Firwin to continue to meet the growing demand for its line of insulation products.
